HILLSBORO/ELROY - Joel C. Schraufnagel, age 54 years, of Hillsboro / Elroy, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro.
He was born on November 18, 1965 to Allen and Nancy (Nienow) Schraufnagel in Hillsboro. Joel grew up in Elroy and graduated from the Royall High School. He then graduated with a Masters Degree in Journalism from UW-Madison.
Joel was a free spirit who enjoyed living and working around the country in various cities including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago. He truly enjoyed writing and reading, along with watching movies. He worked in bookstores, wrote a lot of articles and screenplays and loved communicating with friends along with his cup of coffee.
Survivors include his father, Allen Schraufnagel of Hillsboro; brother, Thomas (Sheila) Schraufnagel of Hillsboro; nephew, Jordan (Stacey) Schraufnagel and nieces, Breanne and Britni Schraufnagel.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Schraufnagel on December 16, 2019.
There will be a family gathering for Joel at the Elroy City Cemetery at a future date.
