Wonewoc - Elaine June Mortimer, age 92, of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at her home near Valton. She was born on June 8, 1930, in Sylvan Township, Richland County, Wisconsin, to Chene Dade and Ethel (Cook) Fowell. Elaine graduated from Richland Center High School in 1948. She graduated from Richland County Normal School in 1950 and taught in the rural schools in Richland County for five years and first grade at Ontario, WI, for three years.

Elaine was united in marriage to Harvey Mortimer on June 18, 1958 at the Richland Center Free Methodist Church. Elaine and Harvey raised their children and lived on a dairy farm, one mile south of Valton, where Harvey was born and raised. Their marriage was blessed with six children.  

Elaine was a faithful member of the Valton Friends Church for 64 years. She participated in many different ways; such as being a greeter on Sunday mornings, teaching Sunday School Classes, singing in the Four Friends Quartet, and cleaning the church. Elaine was a columnist for 53 years for the Wonewoc Reporter, Hillsboro Sentry Enterprise, and Reedsburg Times Press.

Many people have been impacted by Elaine’s great faith. She lived her life in a way that people could see Jesus through her words and actions. Elaine was adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved spending time with her family, and it gave them great comfort, knowing that she always supported and prayed for them. She also loved gardening, tending to her flowers, listening to WRCO, attending high school basketball games, and watching birds and deer in her backyard.

Survivors include Children: Gloria (Jay) Morford of Dodge City, KS., Gary (Carol) Mortimer of Wisconsin Dells, WI., Kevin (Gayle) Mortimer of Haviland, KS., Marilyn (Robert) Harris of Fallbrook, CA., Mark (Melissa) Mortimer of Hillsboro, WI. and Randy (Robyn) Mortimer of Rochester, MN. Grandchildren include: Sarah Morford, Becky Morford, Dina (Brandon) Ricketts, Diana (Dean) Alexander, Timothy Morford, Danielle Morford, Bethany Morford, Mandy Mortimer, Mitch (Tonya) Mortimer, Stacey Mortimer, Brandon Mortimer, Chelsea (Kaelin) Shuck, Rachel Mortimer, Tyler Harris, Megan Harris, Nicole Harris, Cody (Samantha) Mortimer, Cassidy Mortimer, Christopher Mortimer, Cole Mortimer, Dade (Lauren) Mortimer, Simeon Mortimer, Annika Norby, Mikkel Norby. Great grandchildren: Noah Mortimer, Arabella Mortimer, Kaiden Morford, Hudson Shuck, Holland Shuck, Zoey Ricketts, Etta Mortimer, and Personal Friend Katherine Keith.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valton Friends Church. Burial will follow in the Valton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Wonewoc and at the Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
