Carmen L. (Nofsinger) Miller Haas, age 96 years, of the Hillsboro/Elroy, Wisconsin area, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Milestone Senior Living in Hillsboro.
Carmen was born on September 25, 1928 to Frank and Berke (Marshall) Nofsinger in Bloom City, Wisconsin. Carmen spent most of her life in and around the Elroy area.
She married Howard L. Miller on November 6, 1946 in Elroy. They had three daughters, Jennifer Miller (Bruce McPhee), Chicago; Sheryl Brethorst (David), Reedsburg; and Lynette Reisenauer (Tom), Mauston. Carmen was widowed in 1971.
In 1974 she married Conrad Haas. They moved to West Bend, Wisconsin in 1975. When Con retired from the Railroad, they moved to a country house between Elroy and Hillsboro. During those years the grandchildren were growing up and the whole family loved spending long weekends with Carmen and Con.
Carmen was known for her artistic ability. She was a painter who worked in oil and watercolor. Her works were displayed in various public venues and in the Elroy Museum. She was a self-taught artist who had taken classes in her young adult years at the Vocational School in New Lisbon and then at Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee while living in West Bend. Until her last years she enjoyed painting and was very encouraging to anyone who also painted. Whenever she could travel, a museum stop was always included.
Carmen is survived by her three daughters and their husbands; by her grandchildren, Tanner Brethorst (Solare); Kelly Lopez-Hillard (Michael Lopez); Jenalyn Kennedy (Jarod) and Kerry Hillard (Sean Leary). She is also survived by her Great Grandchildren, Rodrick Ramsden; Phoebe and Conrad Brethorst and Norah Leary. Carmen’s only remaining brother, Avery Nofsinger also survives. Conrad’s step children and spouses survive her as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Elroy, with Pastor Jill Nowlen officiating. Burial will be in the Millards Prairie Cemetery, rural Elroy. A time of visitation will be at the Church on Monday from 10 to 11:00 a.m.
