Richard “Dick” Stanek lived his whole life on the family farm. He attended Sutcliffe Corners School until 8th grade. He then attended Hillsboro High School, graduating in 1963.

He married Barbara Thompson on May 31, 1980. They had 4 children, Jonas, Jimmy, Jamie and Jonelle. They were married 46 years.

Survivors include his wife, Barb; children, Jimmy Stanek of Kendall, Jamie Stanek of Kendall and Jonelle (Mike) Stanek Schultz of Necedah. He is further survived by sister, Marveline Tunks of Camp Douglas; 2 grandchildren, Jake and Jentry Stanley of Necedah; sister-in-law, Janet (Rudy) Stanek; in-laws, Pat (Thompson) Short (Dale) of Peoria, Illinois, Pete (Laurie) Thompson of Kendall, Becky (Mike) Solberg of Westby and many well-loved nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jonas; brothers, Rudy and Robert Stanek; sister, Marcella Williams; parents, Rudy and Mava (Mullet) Stanek and in-laws, Mike Thompson, Roberta (Stephan Jacobson) Thompson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, 11:00 AM, at the Kendall Community Hall, 219 W. South Railroad St. Kendall. Pastor Zachary Meier will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation at the Community Hall, 10:00 AM until the time of service. Smith-Nelson/Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
