Edith L. Marshall passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Elroy Health Services in Elroy, Wisconsin. She was 105 years old, being born to Harriet “Hattie” (Kyser) and Glass on April 6, 1919 in Readstown, Wisconsin. She grew up on Glass Road, Readstown and graduated High School in Viroqua and later attending Vernon County Normal Teachers College in Viroqua.
Edith gave birth to four children; Beverly Jean, Linda, Thomas and Paul Granger and later adopted Wayne, Jane and Janet Thompson / Marshall. She is survived by grandchildren, Ramsey, Kirsten and Greta Larson; Jason, Erin, Raven and Justice Granger and Carissa Woolman.
Edith lived most of her life in Vernon County and the last 50 years on her farm in rural Hillsboro, with her longtime partner, Wesley Novy.
Edith enjoyed her animals from dogs and cats to Mary the Sheep and pet goats. However, her main focus was horses. She was a longtime member of the Ontario Saddle Club with endurance rides and trail rides to the Badlands, Missouri and Big Horn Mountains as well as the yearly wagon train to Richland Center.
Edith worked her entire life, from surgery assistant at the Viroqua Hospital to 23 years as a health aide for Bethel Home in Viroqua, only retiring when she reached 100 years old in 2019.
The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be made to the Manning Cemetery Association, Township of Kickapoo near Readstown, WI.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at a later date.
