Lillian M. Hammer, age 91 years, of Hillsboro, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro.
She was born on June 5, 1932 to Harvey and Nellie (Stenerson) Knadle in Hillsboro. She grew to adulthood in Valley and graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1950. Lillian worked as a switchboard operator at the Hillsboro Telephone Company and at the Red Dot Café in her younger years.
Lillian was united in marriage to Edward C. Hammer on September 20, 1952 in Hillsboro.
Ed purchased the Hillsboro Telephone Company in 1946 and the family continues to operate that business, with Lillian becoming the President of the Company. Ed preceded her in death on March 18, 2005.
Lillian enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her children, Alesa (Steve) Benish, Don (Danita) Hammer, Carla Shaker, Tom Hammer (Shelly Elsen) and Cindy (Steve) Austin; daughter-in-law, Dianne Hammer; grandchildren, Jen & John Endres, Josh & Kelly Benish, Jessica & Brandon Brown, Matt & Rachel Hammer, Katie & Joe Lockington, Aaron & Brayvyn Hammer, Layne & Heather Hammer, Nolan Hammer, Reece Hammer (Tristin), Niles Hammer, Olivia & Nate Leis, Nick Hammer and Max Austin; great grandchildren, Karleigh, Kailyn & Kendyll Endres, Nora, Ellis & Finn Benish, Braedan & Jax Brown, Wyatt, Lyla & Ty Lockington, Landrie & Gatlin Hammer, Lennon Hammer and Colton Leis.
In addition to her husband, Edward C. Hammer; she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Hammer; daughter-in-law, Kris Hammer; son-in-law, Butch Shaker; Parents; brother, Kenneth (Winnie) Knadle and sister, Dorothy (James) Hynek.
Interment will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro; it will be a private service with immediate family.
