Norman was born in Butte, Montana in 1933, the son of John and Loretta Andrew. His father was a lawyer and mining engineer in Butte, and also served as a member of the state legislature there. When his parents passed, Norm migrated to Wisconsin at the age of 19. He worked as a laborer and construction worker in the '50s, eventually returning to college in the'60s. He earned a degree in Education and later a masters degree in Social Work.
Norm met his wife at the university and after graduation they worked together in the field of their choice. He began his career as a counselor in the alcoholism treatment program of the Tri-County Human Service Center in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Subsequently he worked as a psychotherapist in the outpatient mental health area in the Richland Center and Reedsburg offices. He was appointed training coordinator and during that time he also served on the training committee of the National Organization of Community Mental Health Centers. He organized workshops in the community for alcoholism assessment and treatment in public nursing and other areas. He supervised a number of student social workers.
During his career at Tri-County he had dual responsibilities in administrative and clinical areas. As Intermediate Care Manager his administrative and supervisory responsibilities included medical day services, day hospital, vocational rehabilitation services and alternate living arrangements.
After 12 years of clinical work in Wisconsin, he and his wife left to study the delivery of mental health services in another country. They returned one year later to work in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin with the Dodge County Department of Human Services as clinical psychotherapists. He retired from professional work in the early '90s, joining his wife in entreprenurial endeavors.
He loved his wife, his only child, his 3 step-children, and his cats and eventually retired to a peaceful secluded life in the rolling hills of Vernon County.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce, his daughter, Loretta Hetzel, Step-children James MacKay, Cindy Monien (Jim)and Susan Goldman (Marc), 10 Grandchildren and 11 Great- grandchildren.
