Shirley L. Zant, age 95, formerly of Hillsboro, Wisconsin, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Fairview Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin.
She was born in Wonewoc, WI on January 28, 1931 to her parents, William Hollie Jewell and Glessie Selectie (Todd) Jewell. After her mother passed, she was also raised by her beloved stepmother, Lucinda “Lucy” (Rynes) Jewell.
She was united in marriage to William John Zant on June 1, 1955 and they were blessed with two sons, Joseph and Dale. They spent their lives together in Wonewoc and Hillsboro.
Shirley was a housewife throughout her life and in later years, a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. Being a grandma was her greatest joy.
Shirley Lucille (Jewell) Zant is preceded in death by her husband, William John Zant; parents, William Hollie Jewell and Glessie Selectie (Todd) Jewell; and her stepmother, Lucinda “Lucy” (Rynes) Jewell. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Bethel (Jewell) Kupsick; brother, Buford Jewell; brother-in-law, LeRoyce Dean Kupsick; niece, Sharon Kupsick; and four step-brothers, LaVere, Norman, Kenneth, and Dennis Rynes.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Joseph (Carmen) Zant and Dale (Mary) Zant of Hillsboro, grandchildren, Elisabeth (Wesley) Daniels, Alicia “Lisa” (Nick) Kujala, Joseph Zant, Olivia (Eric Montou) Zant, and great-grandchildren, Elson, Addison, Audrey, Joseph, Jordan, and Frances, and other relatives, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairview Nursing Home for the years of devoted love, compassion, and care that they gave to Shirley.
No Services are scheduled at this time.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at Mauston.
